A pregnant pause? Oral histories and futures of reproduction and austerity (Sarah Marie Hall)

FLaG and CIGS are delighted to host the SSP lunchtime seminar on the 3rd February where we will hear from Dr Sarah Marie Hall (University of Manchester) share her research on family futures, the life-course and austerity.

Title: A pregnant pause? Oral histories and futures of reproduction and austerity 

Abstract: In this talk I discuss research with young adults regarding their family futures, life-courses and legacies, and the ways in which these have been shaped by ten years of austerity cuts in the UK. With a particular focus on reproduction and (not) having any or more children, I explore the ways in which socio-economic policies are felt in highly personal and intimate ways. The talk will also reflect on methodological innovations, particularly the development of an Oral Histories and Futures technique aimed at capturing reflections on past, present and prospective life-courses.

Bio: Sarah Marie Hall is Reader in Human Geography at the University of Manchester.
